The Department of Foreign Trade of the CANAINTEX has as main objective to mentor the member companies in terms of foreign trade, based on information, updated and agreed with diverse governmental and international agencies.

In addition, the Department contributes to the facilitation of foreign trade with governmental cooperation both in its internal dimension and with the destination markets of the textile and apparel products.

Amending to TIGIE, August 2023

DECREE amending the Tariff of the General Import and Export Tax Law

August 15th, 2023

It is published in DOF DECREE amending the Tariff of the General Import and Export Tax Law (TIGIE).

The publication considers two effects

The second transitory indicates the permanent elimination regarding the reduction to  20% import duty  scheduled for the  October 1st, 2024 relating to 76 tariff items published on November 18th, 2022 in the DOF in its evening edition. 

In this sense, the current import duty of 25% are maintained.

Additionally, the decree temporarily increases the import duty for:  

  • 27 tariff items of Textile Sector to 15%.
  • 49 tariff items of Apparel Sector to 25%.

The import duty increases to these 76 tariff items conclude on July 31st, 2025.

Mexico updates labelling requirements for textile items, clothing

The Mexican Standard NOM-004-SE-2021, which is set to come into effect from January 15, 2023, will establish all the commercial information required for labelling and is applicable to textile products and items, clothing, accessories and household linens, whose textile composition is equal to or greater than 50 per cent in relation to its mass.
